Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him. Because he cares for you.
Welcome to this morning’s 10.30am Communion Service. Today’s speaker, on the subject of ‘The Day of the Lord’, is Andrew Mugford, and the service leader is Phil Reeve. The Bible passage is 2 Peter 3:1-18.
Please join us for tea and coffee in the back hall after the service. Peter and Gavin are responsible for tea and coffee today.
Please join us at 10.10 in the upstairs youth room for prayer. If you would like someone to pray with you after the service Roger and Judith will be available.
Fellowship lunch has moved The fellowship lunch will be moved from next Sunday, 28th October to 4th November, so that it will be the same day as the baptismal service.
Come for a Cuppa
Over the next month or so all of us are encouraged to invite someone from the church for a cuppa – someone we don’t know so well. Invites are available on the table – please feel free to take one, fill it in and pass it on. As a church we recognise hospitality as a vital part of our church family life and this is one small and hopefully simple way of encouraging all of us to get to know others.
How to understand the Bible Course continues tonight, Sunday, at 6.30pm at Simon and Judy’s home. Supper to follow.
The Bible Course – Explore the world’s best-seller continues at Fullbridge on Wednesday – 7:30pm for dessert.
Angel Tree – Angel Tree is an annual Christmas programme run by Prison Fellowship. Its purpose is to provide a Christmas gift for the children of inmates on behalf of their absent parent.
Allan cares passionately about this initiative and says, ‘If you feel it is something you would like to donate too that will be amazing and thank you!’
We would like to give a cheque to Prison Fellowship from Fullbridge in the first week of November. They will then purchase and wrap appropriate presents for the children/teenagers of those currently serving at HMP Chelmsford. Allan would be happy to answer any questions you may have on Angel Tree or Prison Fellowship.
This has been moved to 9th December, from 16th December. Please change this on your church calendar.
The Wednesday group is at Terry and Ann’s, and the Friday group at Pat’s. Other groups – please contact your home group leaders.
Home Group Questions
Based on 2 Peter 3 The day of the Lord
1 What emotions and reactions to the topic arise in us as we consider “The day of the Lord – Judgement Day”? How does Peter seek to assure us?
2 Please read Amy Carmichael’s dream – one that inspired and motivated her to serve as a Missionary in India. Is this a far picture of us today? What does Peter say, especially in vs 11-18 to practically help us to be ready?
3 How might we as a church be different in what we do and how we do it in the light of Peter’s urgency for “the day of the Lord”?
