This weeks notices

Welcome to this morning’s service Today’s speaker is Simon Quelch and the service leader is Richard Little. Tea and coffee will be served in the back hall after the service.

A prayer meeting, to which everyone is invited, is held every Sunday morning from approx 10.00 am -10.15 am in the upstairs room. We would encourage all who are taking part in the service and youth activities to attend.

Prayer If you would like to pray with someone after the service Richard and Sheila Little will be available.

Simon and Judy We are pleased to welcome Simon and Judy back to England. This afternoon at 5.00pm they will be giving a report on their work in Brazil and there will be a bring and share tea afterwards.

Vinjeru School Trust On the 7th March there is a quiz evening at the Plume School in aid of the Vinjeru School Trust. The quiz starts at 7.00pm and the doors open at 6.30. Tickets are £10 and include food and soft drinks. Each team should consist of eight people. Flyers will be issued soon. If you have any queries please have a word with Ross Power.

Future plans We are thinking about arranging a monthly afternoon meeting (with tea and cakes!) for anyone who is at home during the day. This would be on the fourth Monday and include an invitation to those people who come to Meet on Monday and any friends or neighbours you would like to invite. If you would like to be involved in the planning of these meetings or just want to come along to see what we are thinking of doing you are invited to join us at Richard and Sheila’s home on Monday 26th January at 2.30pm.

Brewster House We are responsible for the short service at Brewster House this afternoon. We would love you to join us if you can at 4.00pm. The residents really appreciate our visits. Please pray for Andy Mugford as he is the speaker this afternoon.

Alpha course We intend to run session one on Tuesday February 3rd at 7pm. If you know of someone who still wants to join the group, please speak to Andy or Rachel. Please pray for the group as it starts.

Home Group questions-

Read John 8 v’s 31-59 with 3 different people reading the narrator, Jesus and the Jews. The narrator needs to be awake because his/her readings are sometimes just phrases.

Note for the Leader. Choose 3 questions that you think are most relevant to your group. If you have time then answer the other 2.

1.Which part of the passage is most meaningful to you and why?

2.What are the differences in the messages about what is “freedom” given by society in general and by the Lord in this passage? Do you think as a Church community we are living out the difference?

3. What is the difference between the “penalty” of sin( see John 8 v’s 21 and 24) and the “power” of sin in an individual’s life? Why do we not always experience victory over the power of sin ?

4. The Lord was very direct and blunt with the Jews when they opposed him; he plainly was not out to please them. What examples can you give of you or another Christian being a “person pleaser” and of being a “God pleaser”?

5. What problems do you have, if any, with the idea of worshipping Jesus as you worship God? Why is it important to discover and believe in the true identity of Jesus?
