Hey Friends! Thanks so much for being interested in what I’ll be doing over the next few months! I thought I’d start by giving you a brief summary of what I’ll be doing for those of you that don’t know.
I have been in the US since Thursday (11th September) and have spent the last 3 days with some friends in San Diego. I am currently on a ‘Coastal Double-decker Train’ on my way to LA ready to settle at the YWAM base.
So YWAM (Youth with a mission) is an organisation which has bases all round the world where they train young people in Christian mission work. I will be joining the LA base with about 20 other people to do one of their programmes. The programme I am doing is called the “Justice Discipleship Training School”. The programme’s focus is on Human Trafficking – teaching us about the issues, about ways of prevention and restoration and looking at it all from a Christian perspective – having Bible teaching on God’s heart for the issue too. For the first 3 months I will be in LA having lectures and seminars during the ‘training’ phase as well as going to work with young women in Brothels and Strip clubs who have been trafficked. If I’m honest I don’t actually know what we’ll be doing with them, but that’s what I’ll let you know! LA has the highest percentage of trafficked people in the whole of the USA so it is a huge issue here. It’ll be a real challenge but also an honour to be part of the work.
For the second half of my venture, we, as a team, will be heading out ‘on mission’ to put into action what we’ve learnt. We will travel to a third world country where Human Trafficking is a big issue and will work with locals. I don’t know yet where I will be going but will be told in the next few weeks – depending on where we are will affect the work we do.
I’d love prayer for the following please:
- That I will settle in and make good relationships quickly with the team (I’ll be sharing a room with 2/3 girls so especially those relationships).
- That I will not get too homesick (I can be quite a baby on that front).
- That I will be completely dependent on God out here – relying on him for all that I need, particularly courage – I’ll be quite out of my depth but I know that He is capable of keeping me above the water.
- That we will be able to reach and make a difference to the women that we meet – that they would know God’s love for them and the hope and peace that Jesus brings and that ultimately they would be rescued from their brokenness and hurt. – Hannah
Remember: OCC will soon be upon us. Please remember the shoeboxes when you shop and maybe pick up an extra toothbrush, bar of soap or toothpaste. Any items can be given to Gilly, Louise or Ann Frost.
Children and Young People’s Groups on Sunday mornings.
On the first Sunday of the month we all stay together in Church. On the remaining Sundays the children join the first part of the service, then go to separate parts of the building for their activities. We have three groups:
Mustard: an Early Years group, with crèche, downstairs in the Back Hall.
Pepper: a Junior group, for up to secondary school age, upstairs in the Green Room.
Salt: a group for School Years 7 to 11, upstairs in the Youth Room on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.
