Update from Hayley Hammond on Kent University’s CU A few weeks ago I was asked by the CU committee to create an outreach event. I organised an evening with “Tough Talk” and we also had an open mic session. The event, with   Simon from Tough Talk, was incredible. It was amazing to listen to him speak about his life and his journey to God. When I was speaking with Simon later he said he found students such an inspiration and was amazed that, with all the temptations we face at university, we still stand strong for God.

As a result of the evening, many people stated they wished to find out more about the Christian faith and someone gave their life to God. I found it such blessing to have been a part of the journey that brought them to a faith in God. There was so much positive feedback from the evening and I hope, in the future, to be able to organise more events for the CU as I have a real passion for outreach events within the university.

We are continuing with events and are planning for freshers week.  Thank you all for your constant support and prayers,

Seated Exercise Class   A seated exercise class is starting on Fri 25th April from 11am till 12 noon at the Baptist Church Hall. No special clothes or equipment needed. It involves sitting and stretching and, probably, laughing a lot! Good for getting stiff joints more mobile. £3.50 per session – no need to pre-book – just turn up.

Update from Hannah Mugford on Nottingham University’s CU  I apologise for the very delayed report from the Events Week that took place between 24th Feb-1st March. The week went amazingly well – we had about 180 students across the 2 lunch bars every day.  The evening events were also well attended by around 200 students per night. These numbers where hugely encouraging – many of them came with Christians who they knew but there were some who came after receiving a flyer. The OCCA team who lead the week were great speakers and proclaimed the Good News in an amazing way.

Since the events week we’ve had over 100 students wanting to know more, meeting other with Christians and beginning to explore in a deeper way the questions that were addressed during the week. During the week there were a number of students who gave their lives to Jesus (I am not sure of the exact number). One of the guys made the decision in tears praying with someone at the final music event and since then has joined my church and small group. Thank you so much for praying and do continue to pray for the hundreds of students who heard about Jesus that week

Charlene and Iain’s wedding  Don’t forget there is an open invitation to everyone from Val and Peter Lamb to join them at the marriage ceremony of their daughter Charlene Lamb to Iain Crosher. The service will be at the United Reformed Church in Maldon on Saturday 26th April at 1.30pm and you are also warmly invited to stay for drinks and cakes afterwards.

Alpha– we plan to run another Alpha starting Wednesday 23 April at 7pm.  Please pray for those who could join this group.  If you would like to come with that friend so that they feel more comfortable, please do so!  Let Andrew or Rachel know over the next few weeks.

Prayer tripletsWith prayer in mind, please consider joining together as a prayer triplet to pray for not-yet Christian friends as well as our own needs.  Some may like to consider a Sunday evening once a month.  Other groups which are already running happen during the day, before work, or in theevening – each being at a timethat suits their commitments.  Whether in a 3 or looking to join one, please speak to Rachel.

Easter Outreach:  Saturday 12 April, 10-12 outside our church – We are planning to give out hot drinks, hot cross buns and mini eggs, along similar lines as at Christmas.  Please join us for an hour (2 if you are free!).  There will be a sign-up sheet in the rear hall.  We have Easter fliers to distribute as well as the Alpha course.  Watch out too for the new Easter banner.
